Buttermilk Country
Description
[Edit]Buttermilk Country is some of the best bouldering in the US. It is beautiful and has tons of tall, proud boulders sitting beneath the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. Peak season is November - February. The boulders are made of quartz monzonite granite and tear up the fingers. Bring tape and lots of pads.
The Buttermilks get a lot of traffic - please stay on marked paths, do not camp or start fires at the boulders and please keep your speed at or below the posted speed limit of 25mph on the road to avoid further damaging the road surface. This is a magical place and remains so by climbers respecting the beautiful natural area!
During warmer months, rattlesnakes are frequently spotted in the Buttermilks. Please be conscious of yourself and your furry friend's whereabouts and don't ruin your day with a bite!
From Bishop, take Line Street/CA-168 west out of town for 7.3 miles then turn right onto Buttermilk Road. Drive 3.4 miles down Buttermilk Road to get to the main parking area or follow area specific directions from here.
