Prophesy Wall
Description
[Edit]Prophesy Wall (also known as Prophecy or Prophesy Wall) is an iconic sandstone crag located just north of St. George, near Veyo, UT—nestled by the Sand Cove Reservoir off Hwy 18.
🧗 Character & Climbing • A classic moderate multi-pitch sandstone face with varnished holds and edges. Routes run up to ~250 ft, with many single-pitch and a generous selection of 2–3 pitch options . • The wall tends to shade in the morning and catch winter afternoon sun—perfect for cooler conditions.
🧭 Routes & Hardness • Boasts around 50–60 sport and mixed lines, mostly in the 5.9–5.11 range. Popular classics include Sticky Revelations (5.10a, 3p), Visionaries (5.10b, 2p), Roofs of Jericho (5.10c, 2p), Harbingers (5.10c/d, 2p), and the challenging Dark Prophet (5.12a) . • Trad opportunities exist—solid gear recommended since some routes blend trad and mixed climbing . • Misfit Prophets (5.10c, 2–3 pitches) is a favorite mid-wall sport line; guidebooks suggest doing it in two longer pitches.
⏱️ Conditions & Access Notes • Sandstone is fragile when wet—wait 24–48 hrs after rain; climb only on dry rock . • Most routes can be down‑climbed or rapped with a single 60 m rope .
👍 Why It’s Worth Visiting • A quieter alternative to busier crags like Chuckawalla Wall and Black Rocks, offering a variety of moderate multi-pitch routes . • Its mix of sport and trad, plus scenic reservoir views and superior winter/early‑season sun exposure, make it a local gem.
Location
[Edit]🌄 Setting & Approach • Situated around 4,500 ft elevation, it sits on BLM land; avoid the private parcel directly below the wall. • Reachable via mile‑marker 18 off Hwy 18: affordable gravel/dirt roads lead to a distinctive iron pipe marking the parking area. A well-trodden trail leads to the base—follow existing paths to prevent soil damage.
