Blodgett Canyon

Description

[Edit]

Located 10 minutes outside of Hamilton, MT, Blodgett Canyon is a granite paradise. The area has lots of choss and the good rock is where you find it. The area is known for its trad routes but offers minimal old-school sport climbing.

The Canyon has these prominent features: Starting closest to the trailhead

  1. The Prow
  2. Cornlier Ridge
  3. Blackfoot Dome
  4. Nez Perce Spire
  5. Shoshone Spire
  6. Flathead Buttress

All of the above features are on the north side of the canyon. The canyon has a raging creek in the spring that decreases flow significantly by summer. There is one bridge that crosses the creek. Unfortunately, it is a few miles up the creek which is not ideal for most of the climbing locations. However, most climbers choose to find one of a small handful of suitable trees to cross the creek. As you hike in, you can see all sorts of wildlife including bears, moose, fox, deer, mountain goats, etc.

Please note that there is a bolting ban in place in the Bitterroot National Forest.
