Published as the East Ledges route in both editions of Grand Canyon Summits Select, this mountaineer's route actually faces mainly southeast. I've never verified if this is the original solo ascent that Al climbed, but regardless, it is a fun approachies scramble to a nice moderate summit. Perhaps an updated guidebook of canyon climbing will reveal more unknowns.

**Snake Indian Route**:
This area has become a popular tourist destination, but what many of these novice hikers don't realize is the mountaineering potential from this easy point hike. Three main summits are possible via the Snake Indian Route, which are: Pattie, Lyell and Newton Buttes. Each of them more technical as respectively listed. The east side bay descent leads one to the superb Coconino ridge that is definitely a top ten Grand Canyon approach scramble. Wayne Tomasi has a decent writeup of the route in his book (pages 221-223), *Grand Canyon Hiking Adventures, 2008*.
